It will be a ceramic gala that shows the spirit of will and the journey of time.

Following the successful holding of the first The Spirit of Ceramics: 2021 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale, two years later, The Journey of Ceramics: 2023 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale will open on December 15th.
The journalist walked into the Jingdezhen Ceramic University Art Museum and saw that the staff inside the venue were working in an orderly manner such as building, designing, measuring the platforms, booths, showcase tables, etc.. The main structure of the booths in each exhibition area has been basically formed, and the layout of some booths has been completed. The exhibition arrangement has been underway meticulously and orderly.

Zhao Lantao, Executive Curator of the Biennale and Vice Dean of the School of Fine Arts of Jingdezhen Ceramic University: This Biennale received a total of 1803 ceramic works from 53 countries worldwide, including five categories: vessels, sculptures, paintings, installations, and images. After a fair and impartial first round of selection by 17 expert judges from around the world, a total of 260 works were selected, including 47 works by foreign artists from 28 countries around the world. On December 13th, the organizing committee of the biennial exhibition will specially invite 20 evaluation experts from 10 countries around the world to conduct the second round of on-site evaluation. Ultimately, 46 works will be awarded, with a total prize money of 2 million yuan. Among them, the first prize “Jinglan Award” has a prize money of up to 300,000 yuan, which will become the highest prize in the world’s ceramic art competition category.

Peng Zanbin, head of the exhibiting team for the main exhibition of the Biennale and associate professor of the School of Fine Arts: Similar to the previous Biennale, the main exhibition of this Biennale has four exhibition halls distributed on the third floor of the art museum. Our exhibition team has been busy with the exhibition work since November 22nd and has now completed half of it. The work of installation is expected to complete on December 11th, ensuring that the second round of on-site evaluation will proceed as scheduled on December 13th. Among the selected works for this biennial exhibition, there are many works of larg volumes, including a series of works over 20 meters long. Therefore, there are actually over a thousand exhibition works, and many of them are very complex and time-consuming to install and fix. Some even take one or two days, which adds some difficulties compared to the previous exhibition. During the exhibition process, we pay attention to the interactive relationship between works and works as well as between works and space, comprehensively consider the international, academic, and artistic aspects of works, highlight the artistic expression of works to the greatest extent, and strive for excellent exhibition effects, so that the public can have a good immersive viewing experience.
